Literally ‘dark wheat beer’ in German, this is a Bavarian classic that is surprisingly refreshing and easy drinking for a ‘dark beer’. Unlike most beers, the primary flavours and aromas in this one come from the yeast: esters produced during fermentation give hints of banana that will surprise those unfamiliar with the style. A generous dose of dark crystal malt adds colour and body to the beer, which is deliberately carbonated quite highly so as to be refreshing enough to drink in any season.
