We are proud to announce that we are officially B-corp certified!

We’ve joined a small but growing community of B Corp businesses in Australia and New Zealand that are committed to business as unusual! We’re just the seventh brewery in Australia to commit to a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable economy, and we’re delighted to join our fellow B Corps.

The B in B Corp stands for ‘Benefit for All’. It’s a way of demonstrating, via an independent stamp of approval, that our business places employees, environmental performance, customers and community on an equal footing to money.

So every time you support us, you are supporting a business that cares about the planet, people and community.

So... Why is it important?

It’s hugely important to us because we set the business up to be about more than just money.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the Jervis Bay area, we wanted to be as environmentally conscious as possible.

We set out to be a great place to work, and to provide a place for the community to meet and exchange ideas – or just have fun!

Being B Corp certified means we’re not just talking about being better and doing things the right way, we’re doing it.

Certification was no easy task and took us close to 4 years of hard graft to achieve. We changed our business for the better, in a number of ways;

Sustainability

  • We’ve installed enough renewable energy to power both our sites when the sun is out.
  • We have installed solar hot water to pre-heat brewing water in order to reduce the amount of gas required for brewing.
  • We’ve reduced water usage to 4.4L of water per litre of beer by installing rainwater and re-using water in brewing operations.

Looking after our people

  • We’ve implemented an employee ownership scheme for staff who work with us for the long-term.
  • We ask staff how they feel about their work and do our best to provide a good work:life balance.
  • We offer staff a paid day off every year to volunteer with something they care about.
  • We favour and support suppliers who are aligned to our environmental and social goals.

Looking after our other people

  • We choose to work with local suppliers where possible (not everything for making beer can be sourced from the Shoalhaven).
  • We’re proud that our local area and taproom make up 75% our sales, and we look after our key customers.

Decision Making & Philanthropy

  • We changed our constitution to legally oblige Directors to consider the impact of their decisions on workers, community and environment – not just profit.
  • We have a target of donating 1% of revenue to organisations and charities that make our corner of the world a better place.
